Grenada’s Hydrocarbons Technical Working Group (“GH-TWG”) has been appointed by the Cabinet of Grenada to fully assess Grenada’s hydrocarbon potential and, if found to be commercially viable, devise a strategy and action plan to explore, develop and monetise such findings for the benefit of the citizens and the patrimony of the State of Grenada.

The deliverables of the Technical Working Group are:

  1. A comprehensive report on Grenada’s hydrocarbon potential, including an assessment of the geological and geophysical data, estimates of reserves and potential production, recommendations for exploration and development strategies, mitigation measures, and policies and regulations to promote investment and development
  2. A report on the technical and economic feasibility of developing Grenada’s hydrocarbon reserves
  3. A report on the potential environmental and social impacts of hydrocarbon exploration and development in Grenada, and strategies to mitigate these impacts
  4. A report on the legal and regulatory framework required to support the exploration and development of Grenada’s hydrocarbon reserves
  5. A report on capacity building initiatives to support the development of a skilled workforce in the hydrocarbon sector in Grenada
  6. A communication strategy to engage stakeholders, including communities, civil society organisations, and the private sector
  7. A set of policies and strategies for the sustainable exploration and development of Grenada’s hydrocarbon resources
  8. Recommendations for potential partners and investors, including a plan to attract and retain them
  9. A stakeholder engagement plan that outlines the approach, mechanisms and processes for engaging with relevant stakeholders throughout the exploration and development process

Qualified young individuals are strongly encouraged to apply for the position of Junior Petroleum Engineer. The successful applicant will assist the GH-TWG with technical assessments, research and data management related to Grenada’s hydrocarbon potential. Working under the guidance of the Lead Technical Consultant and other industry experts, the intern will gain hands-on experience in Hydro-carbon project co-ordination and implementation, petroleum engineering, resource evaluation and regulatory processes.

Core responsibilities of the Junior Petroleum Engineer include:

    1. Draft technical recommendations for Grenada’s hydrocarbon assessment
    2. Contribute to risk assessments and feasibility studies for hydrocarbon exploration and development
    3. Recognise and promote the prospectivity of Grenada
  4. Review documents such as license awards, work programmes, budgets, drilling and development plans submitted by licensees and provide comments and recommendations to the GH-TWG on geoscience-related aspects
  5. Assist the GH-TWG in ensuring the fulfillment of the mandates of licensees by regularly tracking and reporting on progress against aspects of the mandate related to drilling, engineering and field development
  6. Develop a sound understanding of industry standards, best practices and compliance requirements
  7. Stay updated on advancements in petroleum engineering and resource management through
    1. Building and leveraging a professional network
    2. Consumption (both online and, where appropriate, in-person) of material disseminated by internationally recognised technical societies
    3. Research on global case studies and analogue fields to identify relevant development strategies and best practices
  8. Assist in liaising with industry experts, government agencies and consultants on petroleum engineering matters
  9. Ensure all petroleum engineering work complies with governmental regulations and internal policies

The successful candidate is likely to possess the following mix of qualifications, experience and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Solid understanding of petroleum engineering fundamentals and working familiarity with petroleum geoscience and facilities engineering concepts
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Professional demeanour with clear written and oral communication skills

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
