NAWASA Committed to Resolution

On Thursday, 30 October 2014, The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) was very surprised and disappointed by the premature industrial action being taken by the workers represented by the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union (GTAWU).

Over the last few months, both the Union and the Authority have been engaged in negotiations on the “Collective Agreement” and have arrived at agreement on several matters.

In relation to matters on which agreement could not be reached, which are the subject of this industrial action, the parties agreed during negotiations that these would be referred to the Labour Commissioner as is set out in the Dispute Resolution Procedures within the Labour Code and the NAWASA/GTAWU Collective Agreement.

An agreed statement of matters for conciliation was forwarded by NAWASA to the Ministry of Labour on 28 October 2014, after NAWASA received communication from GTAWU dated 20 October 2014, agreeing to the matters to be sent to the Ministry of Labour. We are currently awaiting the date for this conciliatory meeting from the Ministry.

NAWASA remains committed to the Dispute Resolution Process as set out in the Labour Code and NAWASA/GTAWU Collective Agreement and hopes that GTAWU will respect and follow the precepts of both of these instruments
