  • Statutory body MNIB established over 45 years ago
  • Import–Export Agromart (IMEXA) Ltd. established to replace MNIB
  • Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall delivered 2025 budget in Lower House of Parliament on 7 March 2025

Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall announced that the life span of the entity known as the Marketing and National Importing Board (MNIB) — established over 45 years ago — will end before the 3rd quarter of 2025. Government has established a new entity to replace the statutory body.

Delivering the 2025 budget in the Lower House of Parliament on 7 March 2025, Cornwall said the ruling Dickon Mitchell Administration announced reforming the entity within days of taking over the country’s administration in June 2022.

“Reform of the Marketing and National Importing Board (MNIB) Mr Speaker, we have taken decisive steps to address the longstanding financial mismanagement and inefficiencies plaguing the Marketing and National Importing Board,” he told the House as he provided an update on the status of the board which falls under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance.

“To stop the organisation’s financial and operational decline, we scaled down all operations and assumed all debts, creating a foundation for meaningful restructuring. However, the restructuring process has faced delays due to the absence of years of audited financial statements, complicating valuation and due diligence efforts,” he said before announcing the intended formula for the entity’s future. “Despite these challenges, the Government remains committed to transparency and accountability in this transition. The engagement of a strategic partner is key to building a modern, efficient, and sustainable entity that will better serve farmers, agro-processors, and the broader economy.”

Cornwall told the House, “To this end, a new company — Import–Export Agromart (IMEXA) Ltd — has been established to replace the MNIB, and legal and financial experts are developing a prospectus and legal agreements to engage a suitable strategic partner and have the new entity up and running before the end of third quarter 2025.”

STOP STOP STOP asking ” partners ” in to your essential services Grenada! If YOU cannot provide the skilled educated management from locals then there lays the problem. Since you allowed the running of the Grenada Postal Corp into private hands, shipping costs have skyrocketed! The Post Office will no longer give you the CHEAPER overland option for sending parcels which is INCORRECT! Air Freight costs are ridiculous and the sender should choose the appropriate and affordable shipping for themselves.

Now you want to muck up the “new” MNIB with a stupid new name and an outside partner who will not guarantee you a better outcome.
