Grenlec continues to address the impact of the accidental fire that occurred on Saturday, 22 February 2025.
One rental engine was damaged by the fire and has been rendered inoperable. While some of the other rental generators have been cleared for operation, some remain offline until the unit that was damaged is isolated. We are awaiting clearance to bring those generators that were closest to the fire back into service to ensure reliability.
Until the remaining rental generators are cleared for use, the Company is operating with lower reserve capacity. This means that if any unplanned events occur with the larger primary engines at the Queen’s Park Power Plant, as occurred on the evening of 22 February, there is a chance of interruptions in the power supply.
We assure customers that our team is working diligently and is committed to manage the situation and restore the generation reserves with the aim of minimising further disruptions and inconvenience.
