In celebration of Grenada’s Independence, HD Lady, the island’s first locally-owned vegan makeup and skincare brand, is leading the charge toward a more sustainable future with the launch of environmentally conscious initiatives. Among these efforts is the introduction of refillable powder options, enabling customers to reuse their existing powder cases and significantly reduce waste.

“Our aim is to inspire our customers to embrace sustainable beauty practices,” said founder Melissa Jones-Gittens. “By offering refillable options, we encourage them to contribute to reducing waste while still enjoying the premium quality they expect from HD Lady.”

In addition to refills, HD Lady continues to champion sustainable beauty through:

  • Vegan Products: Crafted with plant-based, cruelty-free, and ethically sourced ingredients, HD Lady’s formulas are free from harmful chemicals and enriched with organic elements for a safer, eco-friendly beauty experience.
  • Eco-Friendly Packaging: The brand uses recyclable and biodegradable materials to minimize environmental impact.
  • Paperless Practices: By leveraging digital tools, HD Lady reduces the need for printed materials while incorporating recyclable materials in their packaging.
  • Energy Efficiency: The business operates with energy-saving appliances to lower its carbon footprint.

Since its launch in 2020, HD Lady has become a trailblazer in Grenada’s beauty industry, offering a high-definition makeup line and a complementary skincare range. Manufactured in Canada, the products are ISO and GMP certified, ensuring top-tier quality. They are also paraben-free, gluten-free, and safe for sensitive skin, with added benefits from skin-friendly ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, chamomile extract, and green tea extract.

HD Lady is the brainchild of Melissa Jones-Gittens, a former educator at St Joseph’s Convent (St George’s) and banker who transitioned into the beauty industry to provide Grenadian women with high-quality, affordable cosmetics. With an eye on convenience, she also launched an eCommerce platform, allowing customers to shop 24/7 with local and international delivery options.

Melissa’s entrepreneurial excellence has not gone unnoticed. She was recently honoured by her alma mater, SJC (St George’s), as an outstanding entrepreneur during the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations. A Buntricia-trained makeup artist, Melissa holds an Associate Degree in Science (TAMCC), a BSc in Management Studies and Computer Science from the University of the West Indies (St Augustine, Trinidad) and an MBA in IT Management from the University of Leicester (UK).

Melissa hopes her efforts will not only inspire Grenadians to embrace sustainable beauty but also empower others to make more eco-conscious choices in their daily lives.
