Three months after the cabinet of ministers decided to appoint the Land and Surveyors Board members, the notice informing the general public was published in the 8 November publication of the Government Gazette.
“Pursuant to section 4(1) of the Land Surveyors Act, Cap. 163 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of Grenada, which established the Land and Surveyors Board, the Public is hereby informed that Cabinet approved the appointment of the following persons for the Land and Surveyors Board for a period of two (2) years, with effect from 1st August 2024,” said the notice, signed by Isaac Bhagwan, Permanent Secretary (Ag.), with responsibilty for Agriculture and Lands Forestry and Marine Resources.
According to the notice, Neil Noel is the appointed chairperson while the other members are George Skerritt, Director of Lands and Surveys; Kedahli Crichton, Head of the Physical Planning Unit; Alan Robinson, Registered Surveyor and Anthony Roberts, Registered Surveyor. The board will appoint the secretary.
Objectives of the board are to regulate the practice of professional and land surveying and govern all registered surveyors in a manner that best serves and protects the public; establish, maintain, and develop standards for practice of land surveying and professional conduct of surveyors; and promote public awareness of the role of the board and communicate and cooperate with other professional organisations for the advancement of the best interests of the profession.
The Land and Surveyors Act further explains that the functions of the board shall be to keep and maintain a register of surveyors; conduct such professional interviews as the board considers necessary for the purpose of enabling persons to qualify for registration under this act using if required external qualified persons,
Other functions are to approve or reject applications for registration under the law or to approve any such applications subject to such restrictions as it thinks to impose; establish, monitor, maintain, and develop the standard of professional conduct or ethics of registered surveyors; hear and determine disciplinary proceedings against surveyors in accordance with the provisions of this act.
