On Thursday, 1 August, the High Commissioner for Grenada Her Excellency Rachér Croney received a Diplomatic Excellence Award from AsiaOne Magazine for her contributions to promoting trade, cultural, and tourism ties between Grenada and the United Kingdom.
High Commissioner Croney was selected by a research team and jury panel of more than 20 specialists from United Research Services (URS) Media International, a leading international research-based media house with a business and news publication named AsiaOne Magazine. For the Americas, Grenada was one of 5 countries recognised, and High Commissioner Croney was a recipient of one of the 11 Diplomatic Excellence Awards presented to the diplomatic corps in the UK for 2024. With this award, Grenada will also receive a 4-page tourism feature in AsiaOne Magazine.
The award was presented at the 23rd edition of the World Sustainable Round Table Meet in Kensington, London. In attendance was Shockat Adam, MP for Leicester South, members of the Diplomatic Corps, chancellors, deans and professors from educational institutions in the UK such as the University of Oxford, London South Bank University, Brunel University and Imperial College, along with members of the business community. Dr Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science and CEO of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, was recognised for his visionary leadership and contributions to education and innovation. Attendees also witnessed the unveiling of his autobiography.
According to a release from AsiaOne Magazine, “These dignitaries exemplified the Forum’s global reach and significance, reaffirming the importance of cross-cultural dialogue and cooperation in today’s interconnected world.”
In an interview following the ceremony, High Commissioner Croney stated, “I am humbled by the opportunity to not just accept this award, but to represent the beautiful tri-island nation of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. The Mission remains committed to propelling the socio-economic development of Grenada through our efforts to drive trade, foreign direct investment, human resource development, and tourism. As a country on the frontlines of the climate crisis recently impacted by a category 4 hurricane — we will also continue to advocate for climate action. Partnerships like these provide the platform to highlight the vulnerabilities within our region and work with experts to champion this cause.”
The event also featured a roundtable discussion and presentations on sustainability, climate change, social justice, green innovations and environmental stewardship towards safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of future generations.
