  • Secured 2024 Groovy Monarch title with 447 points
  • Rendition of “Home Sweet Home” was ode to Grenada’s 50th Anniversary
  • Shondell “Dash” Amada secured second place with 434 points

Jalon “Boyzie” Olive evoked celebratory and sombre emotions during his performance, which saw him securing the 2024 Groovy Soca Monarch title with 447 points. His fans reflected on the past 50 years of Grenada’s history with optimism but also a feeling of despair over the impact of Hurricane Beryl, particularly for the sister isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique with his rendition of “Home Sweet Home,” an ode to Grenada’s 50th Anniversary. Dressed in red, green, and gold, he took to the stage with his fellow performers, who were also donned in traditional attire, against a backdrop featuring the map of Grenada. The crowd, thrilled by their performance, excitedly waved the national flag of Grenada.

“Big up to the team. We had a plan that we came out and executed, and the results showed,” he said. “It was a lot of preparation, none stop working, none stop back and forth, but at the end of the day, we came out victorious.”

Shondell “Dash” Amada, who previously captured 4 titles in a row between 2016 and 2019, celebrated with his rendition of “Celebrate (Tomorrow Not Promised)” but had to settle for second place with 434 points. Members of the One Unit dance company, dressed in white, performed their dance routine, then Dash appeared on stage, captivated the crowd’s attention, and walked away, knowing that he gave it his best. “Both performances were flawless. Everything we practiced was in place. I would like to thank Kaiem Sonix Joseph and the team, Big Jonathan, Jelo, and Leanna Joseph, and the One Unit, one of the best dance groups, and everyone who was part of the team,” he said.

Second runner-up was Shem “Terra D Governor” Bernard, who indeed allowed his light to shine during his performance of “Clean Circle.” Terra, however, was unable to be reached for a comment on placing third with 431 points.
