The Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy, in partnership with the US Embassy Grenada, will host a community clean-up initiative at the Lance Beach, Gouyave, St John, on Saturday, 8 June 2024, in observance of World Oceans Day.
World Oceans Day is a powerful reminder of the ocean’s essential role in our lives, acting as the planet’s lungs, providing vital resources, and being a key part of the biosphere.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Awaken New Depths.” World Oceans Day invites us to discover and appreciate the vast potential of our oceans, inspiring collective action towards a sustainable future.
The clean-up highlights the ministry’s dedication to increasing awareness about the impact of human activities on our oceans and rallying the public to help protect the beautiful waterfront.
Volunteers are encouraged to assemble at the Gouyave Fish Market at 6 am.
The Honourable Kerryne James, Minister for Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy, and the Parliamentary Representative for the area will be there to welcome participants. Volunteers will be provided with essential clean-up materials and instructions for the event, which is expected to be completed by noon.
This event is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Republic Bank Grenada Limited, the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority, and the Grenada Bottling Company, through its Coca-Cola brand.
