The Grenada Green Group (G3) is thrilled to announce the launch of a new Plastic Bottle Collection Campaign, part of the Recycle OECS Project.

On 22 May 2024, G3 represented by Maria Davies, a floor member signed a contract with Unite Caribbean, represented by Jesse Gyan to lead this campaign, focusing on the collection of PET and HDPE bottles. Representatives of the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GSWMA) along with another G3 representative attended the contract signing. Collected bottles will be sent to the Queen’s Park Recycling Facility in St George’s for proper recycling.

Plastic pollution is a pressing issue in Grenada, and this campaign aims to combat it head-on. The initiative will focus on collecting Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) bottles across the island while raising public awareness on the importance of recycling.

Campaign schedule and locations

The collection campaign will kick off at Camerhogne Park, Grand Anse, St George, on 8 June. Following this, the collection depot will be available on the first Saturday of each month from July until November, 10 am to 3 pm. Key dates to mark on your calendar include:

  • 8 June
  • 6 July
  • 3 August
  • 7 September
  • 5 October
  • 2 November

In addition to St George, depots will also be set up in St Patrick and St Andrew on 7 September and 5 October, respectively. Specific locations for these additional depots will be announced soon.

Participants who bring the most bottles each month will be eligible to win great prizes. This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to get involved, contribute to a cleaner environment, and win great rewards.

“We are excited to launch this campaign and make a real impact on plastic pollution in Grenada. We encourage everyone to participate, spread the word, and join us in making Grenada cleaner and greener for ourselves and visitors”, said Mandoo Seales, President of the Grenada Green Group (G3). Furthermore, Ian Blaikie, Secretary of the Grenada Green Group, added, “the shredded plastic bottles or pellet product gives the GSWMA an exportable product with the added benefit of relieving the Perseverance landfill.”

This initiative is made possible through the generous support of Recycle OECS and the GSWMA, with additional support from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), AFD, Zero Waste, and the European Union.

For more information about the campaign, follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a sustainable future for our beautiful island. Let’s work together to keep Grenada pure, clean, and green!

And Carriacou’s plastic & glass recycling has ground to a halt. No sites allowed to place recycling containers, no government support for granulating process.
