- International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group meetings began on 15 April

Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall and Mike Sylvester, Permanent Secretary in the Finance Ministry will be Grenada’s participants at the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group which began on 15 April.
“The Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness,” said the website providing information about the annual event.
The meetings will also feature seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world’s financial system.
“The main ministerial meetings and events will take place April 17–19 with other events and activities taking place during the week, April 15–20,” said the website which explained that at the heart of the gathering are meetings of the joint Development Committee and the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee, which discuss progress on the work of the World Bank Group and the IMF.
One of the main events is a civil society forum which will discuss several topics including “Prioritising marginalised groups in social protection projects, agriculture, financialisation and gender: Exploring the World Bank’s response to interlinked Phenomena and Examining the progress of the World Bank’s Commitment to Universal Social Protection.
There will also be a panel discussion on “Exploring Digital Public Infrastructure for Public finance”; a discussion session entitled “Climate Finance Solution for Tomorrow” and yet another called “Policymaking in Times of Conflict and Instability.”
