2023 World bronze medallist and 2-time Commonwealth Games Decathlon champion Lindon Victor, will no longer compete at the Pan American Games 2023 in Santiago, Chile.
Victor was scheduled to arrive in Santiago on 28 October to compete in the Decathlon, which begins on 30 October.
However, the Grenada Olympic Committee (GOC) received notification of Victor’s inability to compete at the games due to a chronic adductor psoas muscle and lower abdominal strain.
Victor received treatment for his injuries in April of this year. However, after an orthopaedic assessment earlier this week, he has been advised by his physiotherapist to comply with rest and weekly therapy for a minimum of 6 weeks. This, his physiotherapist said, will give Victor the opportunity for his best Olympic performance at Paris 2024.
Victor represented Grenada at the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games, where he won silver in the Decathlon. Victor is ranked number 3 in the world in the Men’s Decathlon and earned his ticket to Paris 2024 following a bronze medal finish at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary earlier this year.
Track and Field events at Santiago2023 will commence on October 30 and will see Grenada’s sprinter and NACAC U23 champion Halle Hazzard contest the Women’s 100M and 200M events while 3-time national champion Kelsie Murrel-Ross will compete in the Shot Put.
