  • Grenada is latest Caricom member to sign air services agreement with Qatar
  • Agreement initialled by Qatar’s Minister of Transport and Grenada’s Minister for Civil Aviation
  • National carriers of both countries have full transportation rights

Grenada has become the latest Caricom member to sign an air services agreement with Qatar. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell left the state last Saturday on a one-week overseas trip with Qatar as one of his destinations.

Press Secretary Neila Ettienne said that he was accompanied by Sylvia Bennett-Thomas, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Public Utilities, & Civil Aviation, and Marlon Carter, a Civil Aviation Officer who serves as the Air Transport Licencing Authority Secretary.

“The agreement was initialled by HE the Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif al-Sulaiti, and Grenada’s Prime Minister, Minister for Civil Aviation, Infrastructure, and Transportation Dickon Mitchell. As per the agreement, the national carriers of both countries can operate an unlimited number of passenger and cargo flights, with full transportation rights,” said a report in the Gulf Times.

The report explains that the pact brings the number of Qatar’s air transportation agreements with world countries to 176, and “comes within the framework of connecting Qatar with more air services pacts to allow its national carrier to fly to more global destinations.”

Following the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Mitchell and Jassim bin Saif al-Sulaiti discussed Qatar-Grenada relations in transportation, civil aviation, and ports, and ways to enhance them.

Recently, Qatar signed an air services agreement with the Bahamas and Suriname. The deal is part of a broader plan for Qatar’s national carrier, Qatar Airways, to fly to more global destinations.

Grenada established diplomatic relations with Qatar in April 2002.

Which countries would this airline be travelling from because we really need an airline that allows us to travel directly to the other islands from Grenada. With the way this world is turning the islands need to be able to connect since we’re all one nation spread out between the islands

Generally a good thing. But which airline in the Caribbean is our designated national carrier? Am asking.. .

Does that means that Grenadians would be all rushing to book their annual holiday to Qatar and vise versa I am waiting.
