- PM Mitchell and Andall will attend AOSIS Leaders meeting on Friday, 22 September
- Prime Minister to address General Assembly on Friday, 22 September
Bilateral meetings with the Republic of Gambia, as well as with the Foreign Affairs Ministers of Georgia and Bahrain, are among some of the meetings Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Andall will be attending while at the 78 Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which opened on Monday, 18 September.
On Wednesday, 20 September, Hon. Andall will attend the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) event, while on Thursday 21, he will deliver remarks at the ministerial meeting of the Summit of the Future.
According to the UN website, the Summit of the Future is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enhance cooperation on critical challenges and address gaps in global governance, reaffirm existing commitments including to the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Charter, and move towards a reinvigorated multilateral system that is better positioned to positively impact people’s lives.
Building on the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit, members of the UN attending the summit will consider ways to lay the foundations for more effective global cooperation that can deal with today’s challenges as well as new threats in the future. That Summit of the Future will complement the Sustainable Development Goals Summit or the high-level political forum on sustainable development, convened under the auspices of the General Assembly.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell will leave the state on Thursday and will join Andall at the UN. The 2 will be attending the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) Leaders meeting on Friday, 22 September. This is a meeting taking place on the fringe of the General Assembly. It is described as an auspicious opportunity for SIDS leaders to crystallise their positions in the AOSIS Leaders Declaration.
On that same day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address the General Assembly. The United Nations General Assembly is one of the 6 principal organs of the United Nations, serving as its main deliberative, policymaking, and representative organ.
The Assembly makes recommendations to states on international issues within its competence. It has also taken actions across all pillars of the United Nations, including with regard to political, economic, humanitarian, social and legal matters.
All these meetings overseas are fine if they help us in Grenada.
Our foreign minister is from St Patrick’s and i am sad to say he has done very little for his parish since he took office.
As an elected minister one must leave something in their parish for the people who vote for you just incase you ate not around next election.
St Patrick’s needs a lot of government assistance with things like they own police station ,fire station etc instead of renting from the private sector when the government has land and property they can use.
Correct me if i am wrong but St Patrick’s is the only parish who is renting from the private sector to house both police and fire services.
Awesome, I work very close to the UN,soo proud to see my flagflying high ❤️Welcome PM
I think your pm needs to help the poor people in grenada 1st and stop saying he don’t care for the poor people he is only for the rich to live in Grenada. This young man doesn’t care for the poor
What time will the PM be addressing the General Assembly.
