Division of Culture to host second workshop in Carriacou

In preparation for Festival of the Arts

The Division of Culture in the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture is set to host a dance and voice workshop in Carriacou this week, as part of ongoing early preparations for the Festival of the Arts later this year.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, 16 April and Friday, 17 April, at the Ariza Conference Room.

Day one will be facilitated by Voice Specialist Valarie Daniel-Burkhardt, who conducted a choir development workshop at the Public Workers’ Union Building in St George’s in February. That session attracted 50 choir teachers from primary and secondary schools.

The voice workshop will focus on exercises designed to develop and improve voice placement and projection, vocal resonance, diction and articulation, posture, and intonation. It aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the voice as a musical wind instrument, along with techniques for effective vocal projection.

The dance workshop will be led by Noyda Noel, Acting Artistic Director of the Conception Dance Theatre, who brings over 12 years of experience as a dance instructor. This session is designed to help participants explore the foundational elements of modern and traditional dance, both of which feature prominently in the Festival of the Arts.

It targets primary and secondary school educators (non-dance specialists) and will also cover the essentials of choreography.

Both workshops will run from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

This marks the second workshop to be held in Carriacou, following a session last month that equipped teachers with skills and techniques in Theatre Arts, including drama, storytelling, and monologue.

The Festival of the Arts is scheduled to take place from September to December 2026.
