Grenada’s Senior Men’s National Team will face the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly on Saturday, 16 May 2026, at the Enrique Roca Stadium in Murcia, Spain. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the 2 nations.

The fixture represents another significant step in Grenada’s growing international football journey and comes on the heels of the nation’s recent selection to compete in the FIFA Series 2026, further reinforcing Grenada’s presence on the global football stage. For the GFA, the match is part of a wider strategic push to secure meaningful international opportunities that expose Grenadian players to high-level opposition and broaden the country’s football footprint beyond the Caribbean.

Ireland enters the fixture as a highly respected European opponent, currently ranked 59th in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking. The Republic of Ireland also brings a proud footballing history, having qualified for the FIFA World Cup 3 times (1990, 1994, 2002), and remains in pursuit of qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 through UEFA’s pathway.

President of the GFA Marlon Glean welcomed the announcement as a valuable opportunity for the continued advancement of Grenadian football. “This fixture against the Republic of Ireland is another important signal of Grenada’s growing relevance within the international football landscape. For our Senior Men’s National Team, it is an opportunity to compete against strong European opposition, continue building experience at a higher level, and further our development as a programme. It also reflects the Grenada Football Association’s ongoing commitment to creating global opportunities for our players while using football as a platform to strengthen visibility for Grenada and deepen international relationships beyond the region,” he shared.

Republic of Ireland Head Coach Heimir Hallgrímsson also highlighted the importance of the fixture within their preparations. “We’re delighted to have this training camp and fixture officially confirmed. It will be a fantastic week of work in a high-quality environment and provides a valuable opportunity for players to train, compete, and make a strong impression as we continue to build depth within the squad.”

For Grenada, the match offers more than just 90 minutes of football. It provides the Senior Men’s National Team with another important platform to test itself against strong international opposition, build match readiness, and continue improving within FIFA’s global ranking system.

It also creates an opportunity to promote Grenada to an international audience, particularly Ireland and Europe, through sport, deepening the link between football, national branding, and cultural exchange.

The GFA views fixtures of this calibre as essential to the long-term development of the national programme. By competing against teams from outside the region, Grenada continues to gain the kind of technical, tactical, and organisational experience needed to strengthen its football ecosystem and prepare for future international assignments. This approach remains aligned with the association’s broader strategic vision of elevating Grenadian football locally, regionally, and globally.
