Eleven-year-old Alaina Johnson has brought pride to Grenada after her poster entry in the junior division of the 2025 Florida–Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Children’s Environmental Poster Competition outperformed entries from other participating Caribbean countries.
Her project was based on the theme “How to Protect the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities.” As part of her prize, Johnson, a student at St Mary’s Catholic School in St Andrew, was invited to an exclusive luncheon aboard the P&O Aurora on Monday, 2 March 2026. She was accompanied by her mother, her principal, 2 teachers and 18 students from the school, along with representatives from the Grenada Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture.
Johnson will also receive a laptop from the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), while her school will be awarded a monetary prize of US$3,000. She expressed delight at securing first place. “I am very proud of myself for winning over the whole Caribbean, and I want to thank my teacher for giving me the opportunity to participate. I also want to thank my mother and her co-workers for helping me,” she said.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Amelia Edwards, a student of St Joseph’s Convent in St George’s, secured second place in the senior division of the children’s poster competition. She will receive a touchscreen device, while her school will be awarded a monetary prize of US$1,500.
Entries were also submitted by Neriah Cadet in the junior division of the essay competition and Khalia Bain in the senior division of the essay competition. Both students of St Joseph’s Convent in St George’s will receive recognition awards of US$200.
The Florida–Caribbean Cruise Association said the Essay and Poster Competitions aim to cultivate creativity, critical thinking and environmental awareness among students in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America, while rewarding their efforts and achievements.
