The Mermaid Beach Hotel in Hillsborough was the setting for a celebratory event as the Independence Awards and Cocktail was held.
The event, a key part of the official calendar for the nation’s 52nd anniversary of Independence, paid tribute to individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the community and national heritage.
Held under the national theme, Grenada at 52: Anchored in Faith Guided by Purpose, the ceremony recognised excellence across a variety of fields, with all honourees acknowledged by the Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government.

Honouring local achievers
The award presentation highlighted key figures in the local community:
- Excellence in Sports: Awards were presented to Kellis Andrews and Ashareah Enoe
- Cultural Ambassador: Fimbar “Shortpree” Andrews was honoured for his contributions to culture
- Community Service: The award was presented to EA Goldhill
- Entrepreneur Award: The business achievements of Ken & Kenny Regis were celebrated
- Minister’s Special Award: Multiple recipients were recognised, including the Carriacou Animal Hospital, Henry Stiell, Grenlec workers, and Hyacinth “Slim” Mathurine

It was made possible through the support of dedicated local partners, the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), Paddy’s Enterprises & Hardware, Grenada Development Bank, and Nexa Credit Union. The organisers thank them for their investment in recognising local achievements.
The evening also featured musical selections from a saxophonist from the Royal Grenada Police Force Band, Lyndon Langdon, and live entertainment by the A1 Band.
