Ariza Credit Union has announced a new sponsorship initiative designed to support the development and capacity building of small credit unions across Grenada.

Through this programme, Ariza will sponsor the participation of one eligible credit union each year to attend the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) Convention and Trade Show, continuing this support until each participating credit union has had the opportunity to attend.

As Grenada’s largest credit union and the second largest in the OECS, Ariza recognises the vital role that smaller credit unions play in expanding financial inclusion, strengthening community resilience, and advancing the cooperative movement nationally.

Speaking on the initiative, the President of Ariza Credit Union stated: “It is our firm persuasion that the strength of the sector is reliant on us working collaboratively to ensure capacity building through training and development and other initiatives.”

The initiative targets Grenadian credit unions with total assets of EC$10 million or less, which often operate with limited resources and reduced access to regional development opportunities. Participation in the CCCU Convention is expected to provide benefits such as improved governance, enhanced risk management, exposure to emerging technologies, and strengthened professional networks.

The selected credit union was determined through a live, fair, and transparent draw conducted at Ariza Credit Union’s Head Office. The draw involved the following credit unions:

  • Gateway Cooperative Credit Union
  • Hermitage Cooperative Credit Union
  • Birchgrove Cooperative Credit Union
  • Horizon Cooperative Credit Union
  • GTAWU Credit Union

By enabling small credit unions to participate in the CCCU Convention on a rotating basis, Ariza aims to ensure sector-wide benefits that extend beyond individual institutions and contribute to the overall strengthening of Grenada’s credit union movement.

This initiative reinforces Ariza Credit Union’s leadership not only in financial services but also in cooperative development and upliftment. By investing in smaller credit unions, Ariza continues to promote cooperation among cooperatives and support the long-term growth and resilience of the sector.

Ariza Credit Union congratulates GTAWU Credit Union on its selection and looks forward to its participation alongside sister credit unions from across the Caribbean.
