The Principal Officer of the US Embassy in Grenada Cindy Diouf recently conducted a three-day visit to the sister isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique from 22–24 October 2025, as part of the embassy’s ongoing commitment to American Citizen Services (ACS) outreach and infrastructure recovery in areas severely impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall on 1 July 2024 in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, delivering catastrophic damage. Following this devastation, US-supported projects and diplomatic engagement have been key components of ongoing recovery and resilience-building efforts.

During the visit, Principal Officer Diouf provided ACS services, including passport renewals, notarial services, and outreach to US citizens, while also engaging in courtesy visits and project site inspections. Among the key highlights of the trip:

  • Strengthening disaster preparedness: Visits to 2 Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs), one in Carriacou and one in Petite Martinique, donated by US Southern Command. These facilities are designed to enhance disaster response capacity and ensure communities are better equipped to face future challenges
  • Advancing health and community well-being: A visit to the containerised health clinic in Dumfries, Carriacou, which is scheduled for handover in the near future. This initiative reflects the importance of accessible healthcare in building resilient communities
  • Promoting food security and education: A stop at the recently constructed chicken coop and restocked poultry project at Hillsborough Primary School, part of an agricultural-education initiative aimed at fostering food security and empowering local youth
  • Enhancing educational infrastructure: Reviewed the library benches donated to the school in Petite Martinique, which have enhanced the learning environment for students

“In the wake of Hurricane Beryl’s extraordinary destruction, our visit is about more than consular services — it is about reaffirming our interest and supporting infrastructure and resilience that give communities strength and hope,” said Principal Officer Diouf.

The embassy reaffirms its ongoing engagement with local stakeholders across Carriacou, Petite Martinique, and mainland Grenada to promote education, health, resilience, and citizen services.
