The Confucius Institute at T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) marked its 10th anniversary with a celebratory ceremony on 6 October, reflecting on a decade of fostering Chinese language education and cultural ties in Grenada.

The event brought together dignitaries, including His Excellency Yang Shu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Grenada; Dr Wendy Grenade, Council Chair of TAMCC; Elvis Morain, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education; Andrew Abraham, principal of TAMCC, alongside senior college managers and principals of partner schools.

In their addresses, officials commended the institute’s significant role in strengthening Grenada–China relations. TAMCC Principal Andrew Abraham emphasised how the institute has been instrumental in broadening students’ horizons and providing a vital window to Chinese culture, while Ambassador Yang Shu noted it as a vivid reflection of the bilateral friendship.

Dr Fan Jiang, Resident Director of the Confucius Institute, reviewed the institute’s growth, from establishing comprehensive language courses to hosting flagship cultural events like the “Spring Festival Gala.” Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies David Ambrose emphasised that these achievements were the result of the joint dedication of both Chinese and Grenadian teams.

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural performance that showcased a fusion of Chinese and Grenadian arts. Students performed a diverse programme, including Chinese songs, kung fu, and tai chi routines alongside traditional Grenadian dances and songs, demonstrating a beautiful blend of both cultures.

The ceremony concluded with the exchange of a 10th-anniversary cooperation certificate and a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolising both a celebration of past achievements and a commitment to a future of continued partnership and shared learning.
