Prime Minister the Honourable Dickon Mitchell will depart Grenada on Thursday, 4 September 2025, for an official visit to Algeria and Ethiopia to participate in 2 major continental events aimed at strengthening Africa-Caribbean relations and economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister will first travel to Algeria to attend the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), where he has been invited to participate in a Presidential Roundtable Discussion on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The event will feature participation from over 130 countries, 1,600 exhibitors, and 35,000 visitors, with an expected transaction volume nearing US$44 billion.

The invitation was extended by His Excellency Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, who expressed his strong desire for Prime Minister Mitchell’s personal participation, underscoring the excellent relations between Algeria and Grenada. While in Algeria, Prime Minister Mitchell is also expected to participate in the Diaspora Day event at the IATF, further emphasising Grenada’s commitment to strengthening ties with the global African diaspora.

Following the Trade Fair, Prime Minister Mitchell will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the Second Africa-Caricom Summit, scheduled for 6–7 September 2025, at the African Union Commission, Nelson Mandela Hall. This historic summit marks the first in-person meeting of Heads of State and Government from Africa and the Caribbean Community (Caricom).

The summit, held under the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” aims to deepen South-South cooperation, foster shared prosperity, and affirm a unified voice on global platforms. It builds on the commitments made by Prime Ministers Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados and Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia and aligns with the African Union’s 2025 theme of the year.

Key objectives of the summit include:

  • Reaffirming political and diplomatic commitment to AU-Caricom cooperation
  • Advancing dialogue on reparations, multilateral cooperation, international financial reform, climate change, youth engagement, digital transformation, trade and investment, and cultural exchange

Prime Minister Mitchell will be accompanied by Hon. Joseph Andall, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development and Senator the Hon. Seville Francis, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Youth.

Honourable Lennox Andrews, Minister for Economic Development, Planning, Agriculture and Lands, Forestry, Blue Economy, Marine Resources and Cooperatives, will act as Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell.

The delegation is expected to return to Grenada on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
