The Ministry of Finance hosted its annual Budget Retreat at the Grenada Trade Centre on 6 August, marking a key step in the preparation of the 2026 National Budget.
The event brought together senior government officials, technocrats, and key stakeholders for strategic discussions aimed at shaping Grenada’s economic and fiscal policies for the year ahead.
Held under the theme “Strategic Partnership and Resilient Budgeting for Inclusive Development,” the retreat provided a critical forum for reflecting on national priorities, assessing current economic trends, and coordinating cross-ministerial inputs to guide the formulation of the 2026–2027 Budget.
It also focused on the Government’s continued commitment to its national long-term goals, which include high human and social development, a vibrant, dynamic, competitive economy with supporting climate- and disaster-resilient infrastructure and environmental sustainability and security.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Mike Sylvester emphasised the importance of the event, stating, “The Budget Retreat is a cornerstone of our planning process. It ensures that budgetary allocations are aligned with national development goals and that every dollar spent is an investment in the people of Grenada.”
The retreat also offered an opportunity to review the successes and challenges of the previous fiscal year, and to explore innovative ideas in areas such as sustainable development, digital transformation, infrastructure improvement, and social protection.
Importantly, it allows the ministry to engage directly with line ministries, statutory bodies and other government agencies. This collaboration ensures a holistic approach to national budgeting, grounded in the realities of all sectors.
Following the retreat, the ministry will commence a series of national budget consultations across the country. These will offer citizens a platform to share their views and help shape the Government’s priorities for the upcoming fiscal year, including projects, programmes, and infrastructure development. This is expected to begin in late August.
As Grenada continues to navigate global economic uncertainties, the 2026 budget retreat reflects the Government’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial planning.
