The Government of the United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Simon Mustard as the new British High Commissioner to Grenada and the broader Eastern Caribbean.
Mustard, who is resident in Barbados, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations in the region.
The new British High Commissioner expressed his delight at returning to the Caribbean, where he began his diplomatic career over 20 years ago in Belize. “I am thrilled to return to the Caribbean, a region that holds a special place in my diplomatic life. I look forward to getting to know the people of Grenada, and building on our strong relationship, working together to address shared priorities such as climate resilience, economic development, and regional security,” he said.
During his visit, High Commissioner Mustard presented his credentials to the Honourable Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, in a formal ceremony at the Office of the Prime Minister. He also paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Dame Cécile La Grenade, Governor-General of Grenada.
Mustard held introductory meetings with senior government officials, including Roxie Hutchinson, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Randy Connaught, Acting Commissioner of Police. These discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
A key highlight of the visit was a tour of the Southern St George Water Supply Expansion Project, a major UK-funded initiative under the UK Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UKCIF), which worked to support climate-resilient infrastructure across the region. The project, administered by the Caribbean Development Bank and executed by the Government of Grenada through Nawasa, aims to significantly improve water security and climate resilience for communities in Southern Grenada.
In addition to official engagements, Mustard met with staff at the British Resident High Commission office in Prickly Bay and enjoyed a cultural evening at the True Blue Bay Resort, where he sampled local cuisine and experienced Grenadian hospitality.
Mustard brings extensive diplomatic experience to his role, having served in Central America, Washington DC, the Middle East, Africa, and London. He previously held the position of British High Commissioner to both Sierra Leone and Malawi. He holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Aberdeen.
As High Commissioner, Mustard will continue to focus on advancing the UK’s regional priorities, including sustainable development, climate action, and inclusive economic growth.
