- Waivers granted under Sections 4 and 5 of the order shall expire on 30 June
Government’s exemption for building materials and household furnishing for people affected by the passage of Hurricane Beryl will end on 30 June 2025.
According to the Customs (Post-Hurricane Beryl Customs Duties Exemptions) Order 2025, published in the 2 May edition of the Government Gazette, the order shall not apply to items that arrive in Grenada before 1 July 2024 or after 30 June 2025, “unless the Comptroller of Customs is satisfied that the items were shipped from the country of origin before that date.”
Dated 28 April 2025 and signed by Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall, the order states the waived items to include (Section 4): building materials, household furnishings, fixtures and fittings, large household appliances, air conditioning units, and generators. Additionally, a 100% waiver of customs duties would also be granted to any registered business that imports machinery and equipment (Section 5).
The order states that waivers must first be approved by the minister, in writing, on the following conditions:
- the items are imported for personal use and not for commercial use, sale or exchange
- the items are imported for the purpose of reconstructing, repairing, furnishing or fitting buildings that were damaged, destroyed or otherwise negatively affected as a result of the impact of Hurricane Beryl
- in respect of large household appliances, the waiver shall apply to a maximum of one (1) of each type of appliance per household; and
- any other conditions pertaining to the ownership, use and disposal of the items as the Minister sees fit, and admitted as such by the Comptroller of Customs
