18 Grenadians graduated with degrees from Western Illinois University (WIU) in the 10 May commencement exercises.
6 earned doctoral degrees, 4 earned master’s degrees, and 8 earned bachelor’s degrees. They were among more than 50 Caribbean students who earned degrees at all levels.
Students earning their bachelor’s degrees were:
Noah Lessey, La Digue, St Andrew: Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology with top summa cum laude honours. He is a graduate of St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) and TA Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
Lene Mitchell, Dover, Carriacou: Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry with magna cum laude and Honour’s College standing. She is a graduate of Hillsborough Secondary and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
Whitney Bowen, St George: Bachelor of Science in Construction and Facilities Management. With magna cum laude honours and was named Department Scholar. She is a graduate of St Joseph’s Convent and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
La Ditra Mason, Frequente, St George: Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with cum laude honours and was named Department Scholar. She is a graduate of Anglican High School and TA Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
Sherdell St Clair, Grenville, St Andrew: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with cum laude honours. She is a graduate of St Joseph’s College and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
Gerard Jones, Mt Moritz, St George: Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He is a graduate of Presentation Brothers College and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
Keagan Joseph, True Blue, St George: Bachelor of Science in Sociology. He is a graduate of GBSS and T A Marryshow Community College.
Kori Francis, Fontenoy, St George: Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. He is a graduate of Presentation Brothers College and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
The 4 master’s degree earners were:
Marlena Gabriel, St David: Master of Science in Chemistry. She previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry from The University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus.
Henissa Charles, St George: Master of Science in College Student Personnel: Student Affairs. She previously earned a Bachelor of Science in International Business, and Tourism & Hospitality Management, from St George’s University (SGU).
Brionni Banfield, St Andrew: Master of Science in Computer Science. She previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from St George’s University (SGU).
Shereece Victor, Vincennes, St David: Master of Science in Computer Science. She previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from The University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus.
“Caribbean students made history at WIU this cycle,” said WIU President Kristi Mindrup. “The region was well represented at all degree levels and with notable individual achievements. Students from Grenada and the rest of the Caribbean have demonstrated success in and out of the classroom, and have made a positive impact on the university community.”
WIU will join several other universities in a consortium visiting Grenada on 13 June.
