The Government and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated 21 humanitarian aid containers with essential supplies to the Government and people of Grenada to aid in the restoration of our islands following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl in July 2024.

The relief supplies, which include chainsaws, diesel generators, rechargeable hand flashlights, first aid and hygiene kits, and emergency shelter materials, among other items, estimated at EC$5.3 million, were handed over to Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell during a ceremony held on Monday, 27 January at the Port Authority Welcome Centre.

This donation forms part of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre’s efforts to provide humanitarian aid and relief to those in need outside of the kingdom’s borders.

The donation of these supplies will be used to:

  1. Provide essential support to affected communities
  2. Replenish critical resources for our emergency shelters and response plan
  3. Enhance our preparedness for future challenges

In his remarks, His Excellency Abdullah Muhammad Alsaihani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, highlighted that this humanitarian aid seeks not only to bring relief in the most urgent areas but also to help strengthen the ties that unite both countries.

Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Government and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their generosity and timely assistance, highlighting the importance of international solidarity and the urgent need to strengthen our nation’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

The Prime Minister noted that the Caricom–Saudi Arabia Summit, held in November 2023, played a crucial role in the assistance delivered today. “We are truly appreciative that in a time when there is so much trouble in the world, particularly in your own region, you are still gracious and generous enough to look beyond your immediate neighbourhood and to lend a hand of assistance to those ordinary persons, particularly in the Grenadine islands of Carriacou, Petite Martinique, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who suffered terribly as a result of the devastating impacts of climate change.”

This contribution underscores the sustainable bilateral relations with Caricom and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s dedication to its humanitarian responsibilities on a global scale, as part of its broader vision for sustainable development and international collaboration.
