The Ministry of Climate Resilience, the  Environment, and Renewable Energy is pleased to announce the official launch of Caricom Energy Month 2024.

Taking place throughout November, this annual observance invites communities across the Caribbean to engage in sustainable energy initiatives, with this year’s theme, “Invest in Sustainable Energy: Accelerate the Transition,” underscoring the importance of rapid, low-carbon energy transformation in the region.

Caricom Energy Month encourages a proactive stance toward renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) advancements that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Originally introduced as Caricom Energy Week (CEW) in 2011, Caricom Energy Month has grown to become a platform that fosters awareness and action on energy issues essential to the economic and environmental resilience of the Caribbean. It also allows for a wider, month-long engagement on energy resilience, regional collaboration, and climate action.

The observance aims to:

  • Engage stakeholders on multi-sectoral actions that strengthen economic, social, environmental, and climate resilience within Caricom
  • Share knowledge on regional strategies driving the transition to low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable energy systems
  • Highlight successes and lessons from sustainable energy initiatives in both the public and private sectors, offering valuable insights for regional implementation

Grenada’s planned activities for Caricom Energy Month will centre on promoting partnerships and private-sector investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, with the following key events scheduled:

  1. Residential Energy Conservation Challenge. This initiative encourages homeowners to reduce their energy consumption, with prizes awarded to those who make significant strides in conservation. A grand prize awaits Grenada’s most committed energy saver!
  2. Energy Quiz Competition. A dynamic quiz series will engage citizens at both the national and regional levels, testing knowledge on RE and EE to foster awareness and inspire action
  3. Retailers’ Workshop. Aimed at retail professionals and procurement officers, this workshop will empower participants with knowledge about renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies to help them guide consumers toward sustainable choices
  4. Renewable Energy Symposium. This national symposium will gather stakeholders to discuss Grenada’s progress in renewable energy, review current government initiatives, and provide recommendations to further accelerate Grenada’s energy transition
  5. Electric Vehicle (EV) Webinar Series. Covering advancements in EV technology, charging infrastructure, and the benefits of electric mobility, this webinar series will offer insights into Grenada’s transition to sustainable transportation
  6. Kill-A-Watt Day Exhibition. A closing-day showcase of renewable energy solutions and energy-efficient technologies, featuring industry stakeholders and open to the public

The Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy invites individuals, businesses, and institutions across Grenada to participate in these events, driving Grenada’s journey toward a sustainable energy future.
