An open call has been put out by Art House 473 and Susan Mains Gallery for the 7th edition of the Grenada Contemporary Exhibit: Dream Well.

The theme is from a line in a book by Gaston Bachelard, Earth and Reveries of Will: An Essay on the Imagination of Matter. To paraphrase, Bachelard tells us that it is not enough [as artists] to see well — combining all of the things we have been exposed to so far, but to dream well, or to allow imagination to bring us into harmony with the intangible themes of the universe. Artists, both locally and internationally are encouraged to think along these lines through painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, video, and text. Information for submission can be found at www.arthouse473.com.

Submissions and proposals for work will be accepted from now until 23 August for an exhibition date to be announced in September.

The Grenada Contemporary exhibit has, since its inception in 2014, become an important stepping stone in the development of our contemporary artists, as well as an opportunity for international artists to show their work here in Grenada. With limited opportunities in the region for open calls showing contemporary artwork, the Grenada Contemporary has been a chance to submit artwork consistent with international standards and guidelines. Since 2014, the Grenada Contemporary exhibit has shown the work of 77 artists from Grenada as well as several other countries.

The Grenada Contemporary exhibit, first hosted at Susan Mains Gallery in Spiceland Mall, is now hosted at Art House 473 in Calliste. The experience of Susan and Asher Mains as artists, gallerists, and curators on the international art scene helps to ensure our artists are shown at a certain standard and the work can be seen by our collaborators in Grenada and abroad.
