As part of their shared commitment to environmental sustainability, the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association (GHTA) and the Grenada Solid Waste Management Agency (GSWMA) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing recycling efforts for plastic waste across Grenada.
The MOU, signed on Earth Day 2024 (22 April) solidifies a partnership between GHTA and GSWMA to address the pressing issue of plastic pollution in Grenada. Under this agreement, GHTA pledges to assist in the bulk collection of plastic waste from member hotels, facilitating its transportation to the Queen’s Park collection site managed by GSWMA.
“GHTA is proud to collaborate with GSWMA in this important initiative to tackle plastic pollution,” said Arlene Friday, CEO of GHTA. “By working together, we can make a significant impact in preserving the natural beauty of Grenada and safeguarding our environment for future generations.”
In support of this partnership, GHTA encourages member hotels in need of assistance with waste collection to reach out for more information. Through this collaboration, GHTA aims to streamline the process of plastic waste disposal and contribute to a cleaner, greener Grenada.
“We are excited to partner with GHTA in our ongoing efforts to manage waste effectively,” stated Lyndon Robertson, CEO of GSWMA. “This collaboration underscores the importance of publicprivate partnerships in addressing environmental challenges. Together, we can achieve sustainable solutions for our island.”
Permanent Secretary of Climate Resilience, Peron Johnson added, “It’s great to see such significant partnerships like this and hopes to see even more in the future.”
As Grenada celebrates Earth Day 2024, GHTA and GSWMA invite the community to join them in their commitment to environmental stewardship. Together, let us take proactive steps towards a more sustainable future for Grenada and beyond.
