Carriacou’s rich cultural heritage, which is unique, is one that should be experienced by all, said Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews.

He was speaking at the official launching of the 2024 Carriacou Maroon and String Band Music Festival.

Minister Andrews appealed for contributions from the business community and Kayaks living in the Diaspora, saying their support is important for the sustainability of the festival.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Senator the Hon. Adrian Thomas and Parliamentary Secretary Quinc Britton, were in attendance at the launch in a show of their continued commitment to the development of the local festivals.

“The Carriacou Maroon and String Band Music Festival stands as a testimony of the unifying power that binds us together,” Senator Thomas said. “It’s a celebration of our diversity and not only about our past but also about our living,” he added.

The 26–28  April festival will commence with the cooking of saraca food in the communities of Bellevue, Belmont and Harvey Vale.

This year, for people to understand and learn the different dances associated with the Festival, dancing sessions will be held on Paradise Beach commencing 7 April.
