Commendable performance by Grenada swimmers

The World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships held in Natanya, Israel concluded on 9 September, and the Grenada contingent which included 3 national swimmers, Sara Dowden, Gabrielle Hyson, and Nathan Fletcher, along with their coach, Gerson Escobar, returned home over the weekend.

The swimmers all performed commendably, evident in their achievements of several personal best times, fervid competitions, and high level of discipline.

Fletcher competed in 7 events, of which he obtained personal bests (PB) in 5. His best times were obtained in 100 Breaststroke to a time of 1:11.68, 200 IM to a time of 2:20.63, 50 Freestyle to a time of 25.04 in which he placed 2nd in his heat, and 50 Breaststroke to a time of 32.35.

Dowden, who participated in 4 events, obtained 2 PBs. Her best times were obtained in the 100 Freestyle to a time of 1:01.59 and the 200 IM to a time of 2.33.39

Hyson, who competed in 5 events, obtained PBs in all her 5 events. Her best times brought her 400 IM to 5:32.68, her 100 Freestyle to 1:02.42, her 50 Butterfly to 30.44 and in which she placed 1st in her heat; 200 IM to 2:35.17 and her 100 Butterfly to 1:05.85. Hyson’s new 100 Butterfly time took her just 27 milliseconds short of a B qualifying time for the Pan American Games, Swimming Championships scheduled for Santiago this October.

According to Coach Escobar, the swimmers displayed a high level of discipline and competed strongly in the high-level competitions.

The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) commends the entire team for its great ambassadorial representation of Grenada and congratulates each participant for the achievements gained from the competitions.
