Two of Grenada’s women entrepreneurs — Anichell Thomas of Auga’s Model Farm and Bevon Charles of Akata Farms — who operate in the Agri-business sector and are clients of the GIDC, were selected to participate in the UN Women Multi-Country Office – Caribbean initiative titled “Yemanja Collaborative: A Training and Networking Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs” from 5–7 December 2022, in Jamaica.
The primary aims of the workshop are to strengthen leadership capacity, empower, and equip participants to scale their business and create meaningful jobs, build networks, and create mentorship opportunities for entrepreneurs in the agro-processing and creative and cultural industries.
In 2022, the GIDC focused heavily on promoting and creating opportunities for women in entrepreneurship, particularly through the implementation of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Programme in collaboration with the US Embassy and the Enterprise Business Development (EBD) component of the Climate Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprise Programme. These programmes have enhanced the capacity of several women entrepreneurs in entrepreneurship and new business practices. Specifically, the AWE programme has created the opportunity for women entrepreneurs to network and collaborate with other entrepreneurs in several states in the US.
We encourage women entrepreneurs to register to participate in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs Programme 2023–2024.
