The Girl Guides movement is strengthening in the sister isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The Girl Guides Association of Grenada provided training to 9 of the adult leaders in Carriacou on Friday, 26 January 2018.

Training of unit leaders is part of the mandate of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

The training took the form a half-day session in which the following aspects of the Basic Level Syllabus were covered:

  • Mission & Vision of Grenada Girl Guides Association
  • History and structure of local Girl Guides Association
  • Promise, Law, Values of WAGGGS
  • Guide Signs and Symbols

The leaders present were happy for the opportunity given to them so that they can enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential to become responsible citizens of the world.

On Saturday, 27 January 2018 the enrollment of 2 leaders and 16 girls of Bishop’s College was held at the Hillsborough Government School at 9am. The Promise Ceremony was held in the presence of the parents of the girls, the principal of the school, Rholda Quamina, and the District Commissioner for Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Lynthia Joseph. The Deputy Chief Commissioner, Simone Roberts, and the Training Commissioner, Gloria Bonaparte, officiated at the ceremony.

The Girl Guides Association of Grenada welcomes these 18 new sisters of Bishop’s College to its membership. This school joins the units at L’Esterre Rosary, Mt Pleasant Government and Dover Government schools as the association expands.
