The evening of Saturday, 12 September, saw hundreds of well-wishers and supporters flock to Prickly Bay Marina, for a benefit concert, raffle & auction — organized in conjunction with IEA SGU Alumni — to contribute funds to the relief work currently taking place on our sister island of Dominica, in the wake of tropical storm damage.

Managing Director for Prickly Bay, Mr Darren Turner stated, “The hearts of all persons in Grenada go out to Dominica and with even more poignancy, as we also remember this very month 11 years ago, the devastation which Grenada experienced and the challenge of endeavouring to remain positive along the road to recovery and returning the island to some state of normalcy. Like so many others in the country, Prickly Bay Marina management team, staff and supporters, wanted to seize this opportunity to assist Dominica.”

Prickly Bay collaborated with fellow supporting companies, who echo their sentiments, and staged a concert with a minimal entry fee with all monies collected to be contributed to the relief funds. The Marina hosted a live concert, where acclaimed local bands FLOM, Soul Deep & Fahrenheit, amongst others, contributed their time and talents to assist in the fund raising process and in further raising awareness of the Dominican situation. In addition, a number of local businesses contributed their products and services for the raffle and auction. The total cash funds raised on the evening of the event were $8,038.00ECD, with further funds still being collected.

The event was particularly well supported by the cruising community, many of whom view Grenada as ‘home’ and said they felt honoured and very pleased to have this opportunity to support Grenada’s efforts to assist in alleviating the plight of Domincans at this crucial time. The event organisers were also pleased to receive contributions of food, clothes and tinned goods for shipping to relief organisations already in place in the hardest hit areas of the island.
