The Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control is pleased to announce that The WINLOTT Inc/Windward Islands Under-19 Tournament 2015 will be held in Dominica from 24 June to 3 July 2015.
This follows closely on Winlott Inc’s sponsorship of the Windward Islands Under 15 Tournament which was held in April this year. Each tournament sponsorship is valued at EC $100,000.
The principal aim of this Tournament is to give to the young players of the Windward Islands the opportunity to display their skills and talents and to earn a place on the Windward Islands Under 19 team to compete in the 2015 Regional Under 19 Tournament which takes place in Jamaica from July 20th to August 3rd.
The WINLOTT Inc/Windward Islands Under 19 Tournament will be played using the One Day 50 over format so as to mirror that of the Regional Tournament. Matches will be played at Benjamin Park in Portsmouth, the historic Botanic Gardens in Roseau and at the Test Venue the Windsor Park Stadium.
This is a very important tournament for our players as it could be the stepping stone to the West Indies Under 19 team; and there are further opportunities to be spotted by scouts and become professional cricketers for the Zouks Outfit in the Caribbean Premier League, or for the Windwards Volcanoes Franchise.
President of the Windwards Board, Emmanuel Nanthan, earlier this year, welcomed the sponsorship stating that Winlott Inc must be highly commended for coming forward to fund aspects of our cricket, and for placing an emphasis on the development of the young players in the Windward Islands.
