Small Business IMANI participants have completed a one week training seminar hosted by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs and the Caricom Secretariat. The programme was funded by the Government of Spain.

The training began on Monday 28 April at the National Stadium. It forms part of the Caricom regional project, Creativity for Employment and Business Opportunity (CEBO). The Importance of Small Business, Managing and Marketing a Business, Types of Businesses, and Good Marketing Principles, were among topics highlighted.

The seminar was carried out by facilitators from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs in Grenada, and regional facilitators from Jamaica, St Vincent, Guyana and Suriname. Lead Facilitator from Jamaica, Richard Berwick, described the seminar as exciting. He said the CEBO-Grenada workshop exceeded expectations, and encouraged the participants to seize every opportunity to make the best out of their business, and be professional and respectful. He said that once the energy and talents displayed during the workshop are placed into positive businesses, there is no doubt, the participants will be successful.

In her address at Saturday’s closing ceremony, Youth Minister Hon Emmalin Pierre commended the participants and the facilitators for their commitment in community and economic development through the small business programme. Participants received funding for the creation of mock businesses, where they produced and sold their products, including scented candles, fruit bowls, purses, sandwiches, lunches and confectioneries, to the public.

Minister Pierre reminded the trainees of the importance to the government of the Small Business Programme, and said that government will continue to support it. She challenged the participants to take the training they have received seriously, as the onus is now on them to work with the government to create employment opportunities.
