Two top South African coaches are soon to begin training 10 players selected to represent Grenada at the upcoming 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from 15–27 September, 2026.
The Grenada Team, comprising 5 males and 5 females, was announced during an “An evening with Team Bouah” on 31 May, held virtually via the Zoom platform.
The male players are FIDE Master Renniel Gilbert, Gennard Roberts, Omario Pope, Jaedyn Pierre, and Vladimir Mendez. The female players are Rhonda Lambert, Rockisha Flanders, Achazia Lewis, Naziyah James, and Abiramy Senthilkumar. Gilbert, Roberts and Mendez, Flanders, Lewis and James represented Grenada at the 2024 Budapest Olympiad.
It was an evening of appreciation and heartfelt “thank yous” to the husband-and-wife team Dr Lyndon Bouah and Dr Denise Bouah, who have been providing consistent coaching assistance to the Grenada Chess Federation.
In the case of Coach Denise, months before the 2024 Budapest Olympiad, she provided critical coaching support to the 5-member female team representing Grenada. She was also the official coach for the female team at the Olympiad.
Coach Denise, a former 3-time South Africa Women’s Chess Champion, has been selected to coach the female team, for the second time, at the upcoming Uzbekistan Olympiad. Between 2000 and 2022, she participated in 8 olympiads on behalf of South Africa.
Influenced by his wife, Dr Lyndon Bouah volunteered to do a one-year coaching stint in 2025 with the top Grenada Chess players, mainly on Sundays. The very successful
Special Coaching Programme, conducted together with Coach Denise, ran from January to December 2025. Coach Lyndon is a former Captain of the South Africa Chess Team in 5 of the 8 Olympiads he attended between 2002 and 2018.
Team Bouah has since volunteered to prepare the Grenada Team for the Uzbekistan Olympiad. Coach Lyndon will serve both as Captain of the Grenada Team and Coach for the male team, while Coach Denise will serve as Coach of the female team.
Olympiad training began in earnest on Sunday, 7 June 2026.
