In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Grenada, the Embassy of Japan presents a live Shakuhachi Concert: An enchanting evening of traditional Japanese Bamboo Flute Music, featuring renowned Shakuhachi Flautist Yosuke Irie.
This special musical event will take place on 13 November 2025, at Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) Tanteen, St George’s, from 6–7 pm. Doors open at 5 pm. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
What is a Shakuhachi?
It is a traditional Japanese Bamboo flute with a long musical history in Japan and has a dynamic, ethereal sound, which evokes deep emotion and tranquillity. Audiences can look forward to an exciting evening of cultural exchange through performances of original pieces, popular anime themes, and a collaborative performance with the Grenada National School Orchestra.
The Embassy of Japan warmly invites the Grenadian public, including music enthusiasts, students, and cultural organisations, to participate in this celebration of the 50th Anniversary. This performance provides a rare opportunity to experience Japanese traditional music that is not commonly seen in the Caribbean, while also fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Grenada.
