Grenada National Reparations Committee (GNRC) Statement
on the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade

International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Tuesday, 25 March 2025. Theme: “Acknowledge the past. Repair the present. Build a future of dignity and justice.”

The Grenada National Reparations Committee (GNRC) joins the United Nations in honouring the memory of the millions of Africans who were kidnapped, trafficked, and enslaved in the Americas. This African genocide remains a deep scar on humanity, and its lasting effects continue to shape our society today.

As the African Diaspora faces persistent social, economic and environmental challenges, we must confront the historical injustices that contributed to these challenges — including the centuries-long exploitation and resource extraction from nations like Grenada. The difficulties Grenada faces today are not coincidental; they are the direct legacy of colonisation and slavery.

As we launch the second United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent, the GNRC remains steadfast in its mission to seek social, economic, and cultural restoration for Grenadians and all African-descended people. We stand on the shoulders of our ancestors, inspired by great freedom fighters such as Marcus Mosiah Garvey, who reminded us: “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

By acknowledging our past, we strengthen our resolve to continue the fight for reparations and work collectively toward a future of dignity, justice and empowerment for all people of African descent.

There are no victims of slavery alive today so what this really is, is a money grab by various CARICOM government officials and anyone thinking that they’ll get a toffee apple forget it. You won’t. it is a scam
