The Powerade/Dasani National Swimming Championships held over the weekend saw over 100 swimmers vying for the coveted championship title and top honours in the age group categories.
Three clubs, namely, Grenfin Swim Club, Sailfish Swim Club and Solid Base Triathlon Club, along with 2 unattached swimmers, made up the competition base. Good Hope pool overflowed with excitement as the swimmers competed in 104 events of all 4 strokes with some amazing swims and keen competitions.
The meet culminated on Sunday with Grenfin capturing the championships with 1,677 points. Solid Base followed them in second position with 870.50 points, and Sailfish in third with 814.50.
Age group championships were won with a tie in the 8 and Under Girls, by Brianne De Roche of Grenfin and Sydney Joseph of Solid Base. The 8 and Under Boys was won by Layth St John of Grenfin. The 9 to 10 Boys age group championship was won by Mateo Thomas of Solid Base, while 9 to 10 Girls was won by Evie Twum Barimah of Grenfin. The 11 to 12 Girls was won by Angeliner Glenes Jackson Bain of Solid Base, and the 11 to 12 Boys by Ethan Chu Fook of Sailfish. In the 13 to 14 Girls, Kristin Gresham of Sailfish was the champion, and Jacob Collymore, also of Sailfish, won the 13 to 14 Boys. Anaika Otway of Grenfin won the Girls 15 and Over, and Dejanel Williams of Solid Base won the Boys 15 and Over.
