The Preliminary Round Debate #6 of the 2014 GRENLEC Debate resulted in victory for the 50 year old institution on the sister isle of Carriacou, Bishop’s College.

It was a heated moment on Wednesday as young debaters from both Secondary Schools on the sister-isle, Bishop’s College and Hillsborough Secondary School, came head to head on the day’s motion: ‘Be it resolved that the United Nations is relevant in its current form.’

In proposition to the motion was Hillsborough Secondary School with debaters Shenizah Stiell, Roshaun Lendore, Kellie Knights, Teja Patrice, Niasha Lewis and Anthony Matheson. Bishop’s College opposing team debaters were Shania Chase, Lelanie Mclawrence, Jesmond Emmons, Jamiah John, Reon Patrice and Blossom Bedeau.

The day’s argument resulted in Hillsborough Secondary School scoring 634 points, and Bishop’s College scoring 646 points.

Chief Judge of Preliminary Round Debate #6, Bernard Wilson, said that he was generally impressed with the deportment of both sides, while highlighting areas for improvement. Wilson also advised the debaters on strategies that can be practised in order to strengthen their debating skills. At the end of the day’s debate, winner of Debate #6, Bishop’s College drew opposition side of argument for their next debate to be held on mainland Grenada.
