  • 2 jointly charged for unlawfully causing death of 28-year-old Von Cyrus
  • Attorney Jerry Edwin representing both accused
  • Shooting incident took place on Sunday, 12 May at Grand Anse, near Sugarmill roundabout

Razim Mitchell, a 33-year-old businessman from Café Beau Hill, St George, and Marcus Johnson, a 40-year-old vendor from Grand Anse, St George have been charged jointly for unlawfully causing the death of 28-year-old Von Cyrus, also known as “Wangy”, from The Carenage, St George’s.

Both men, charged with capital murder, appeared before Chief Magistrate Francine Foster on Tuesday morning and were remanded to the Richmond Hill prison. The area around the courthouse was blocked off and heavily guarded by police as bystanders gathered to witness the accused.

The shooting incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, 12 May 2024, at Grand Anse, St George, near the Sugarmill roundabout. Two males were shot by armed, masked men, resulting in the death of Cyrus.

Both men suspected to be involved in the shooting were arrested by police over the weekend after an extensive investigation. The accused were also charged with 2 counts of attempted murder involving 2 St George residents, possession of firearms, possession of ammunition, robbery with violence, and stealing a motor car valued at around $80,000. The preliminary inquiry into the hearing will start on 24 September and the case is expected to be brought up for mention on 10 June, via Zoom.

This latest shooting comes amidst prior incidents that have arisen at a time when the Government of Grenada commenced a 90-day firearms amnesty which ends on 30 July 2024, following amendments to the Firearms Act.

Attorney Jerry Edwin is representing both accused.
