It is with a fulfilling sense of pride that we the members of the Grenada Cricket Association (GCA) welcome the news of Teddy Bishop’s selection to the West Indies Team for the One Day International (ODI) matches on their tour of Australia.
Johnson Richardson, 1st Vice President of GCA views the selection of the right-handed batter as one that’s warranted based on the consistent performances by Bishop over the past 24 months representing Grenada, Windwards Volcanoes, West Indies U19 team and the West Indies Academy.
The selection of Bishop for the Australian tour can be seen as a dividend payment on the investment made in Bishop’s development by stakeholders at the local and regional levels. Vice President Richardson extended the association’s gratitude to all the stakeholders who have played a role in
Bishop’s development in particular, Dwain Gill, President of the GCA and Windward Island Cricket Board along with Ray Duncan and Clyde Telesford, 2 coaches who have been instrumental in Bishop’s development from the age group level to being called up by the West Indies Senior team.
The GCA Vice President believes that the selection of Teddy Bishop should serve as motivation to other young Grenadian cricketers, that through hard work, determination and support they too can achieve their cricketing goals.
Bishop’s selection to the West Indies team places him in line to become the 7th male Grenadian cricketer to play international cricket representing our regional team. He follows in the footsteps of Junior Murray, Rawle Lewis, Devon Smith, Nelon Pascal, Andre “Spiceman” Fletcher and Shermon Lewis.
Junior Murray who made his international debut 30 years ago on a tour of Australia offered his congratulations to Bishop on this major achievement in his budding career. Murray wished Bishop the very best on his maiden tour and encouraged him to make the most of the opportunity provided. Murray believes that the selection of Bishop should demonstrate to the Cricket Association, Government of Grenada, and other cricket stakeholders that Grenada have talented players and that urgent investments are needed to expose these players to the higher levels of the sport.
Andre Fletcher, also joined in extending congratulations and encouragement to Bishop: “I am happy for you, well deserved, I know without a doubt that you will make the best use of this opportunity, continue to make yourself, family, country and the West Indies proud. God bless you.”
Bishop’s West Indies team will play 3 One Day International matches on their tour of Australia.
