The issue of delinquent students on the Carriacou and Petite Martinique will now be better addressed as a new Schools’ Attendance Officer has been appointed.
After almost 4 years of the post being vacant, Merle Benjamin is now the newly installed Schools’ Attendance Officer.
Benjamin, a graduate of Teachers’ College, has been an educator for the past 17 years, with her last posting at the Mt Pleasant Government School in Carriacou.
She was welcomed in her new position at a brief session with the Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews who is passionate about seeing the positive development of education on Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Minister Andrews congratulated Benjamin on taking up her new position and asked that she reach out to get the necessary support when needed, saying there should be no excuse when students are not attending school.
Benjamin was also introduced to the schools on the island by Area Education Officer Rosalina Patrice-Lendore.
Meanwhile, more staff will soon be added to the Division of Education to help improve the standard of education.
