The Government of Grenada is pleased to announce the successful completion of negotiations to lease the Kawana Bay site to Naguib Sawiris, owner of the Silversands Hotel.
Prime Minister the Honourable Dickon Mitchell announced at a ribbon cutting ceremony last evening for the commissioning of Silversands Beach House in Point Salines.
Following a short period of study and design, the Silversands team will soon re-start construction at the site to complete a 5-star resort.
Part of the deal for the Kawana Bay site was the surrender of the Riviera site which sits adjacent to the Camerhogne Park on Grand Anse Beach. This affords Government an opportunity to expand and enhance the public space on Grand Anse Beach. The expanded public park will be declared National Heroes Park in celebration of our heroes past and present.
This symbolic handing over underscores Government’s dedication to responsible land use and community engagement and highlights the ongoing efforts to contribute to the betterment of the people of Grenada.

Excellent news in that Grenada will not repeat the same mistake made all over the Caribbean regarding public access to the beach. Next, let’s figure out how to maintain the expanded park!
