Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews has described teachers as the backbone of the education system.
They are critical to the development of the nation, the Minister said while on a tour of schools. He visited 3 schools on the island — Dover Government School, Harvey Vale Government School and Hillsborough Government School — on the commencement of the new school term.
Minister Andrews said kudos must be given to teachers, whose role as educators is often taken for granted.
To students, he offered some words of advice. He encouraged them to remain focused as they learn and to be respectful, noting that they are the leaders of tomorrow. Meanwhile, to assist parents and students with back-to-school necessities, Minister Andrews recently distributed over 200 school bags and other supplies to children and their families.

Well done minister and while on the topic of education I hope he had a good look at how Grenada did at CXC and the doward trend in the last few years.
Also the number of Teacher assistants within our school system with no regulation our conditions, which means they can be such for as long as they headmaster needs them and some been doing this job for years.
That is one of the backward steps we have allowed into our schools.
Teacher assistants should be contacted to work for no more than two years then attend Teachers college to be a qualified teacher.
