The Grenada Electricity Services (Grenlec) is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2023 Edition of the Grenlec Debates.
Open to every secondary school in Grenada and Carriacou, the Debates are a forum for the public discussion of ideas. Participation in the Debates aids students in the development of their research, analytic and public speaking skills.
Understanding this, the Grenlec team, along with other partners, have been working to prepare for the debating season. A virtual debate orientation was hosted for teams on 8 September 2023.
In her remarks at the orientation, Prudence Greenidge, Grenlec’s Corporate Communications Manager, said, “In essence, we are restarting the Grenlec Debates with a new format and a new look.”, she went on to say that the virtual orientation was a “new experience, a challenge to grow, which is a fantastic thing.”
The 2023 Grenlec Debates will feature a new element — impromptu speaking. It will comprise of 5 rounds and will see the participation of 22 secondary schools.
Preliminaries begin in Carriacou on 25 September.

This is exciting news with regard to the new segment of impromptu speaking. I hope the schools can engage members of the eleven (11) Toastmasters Clubs in Grenada, who would willingly volunteer, to assist the students in the preparation of the impromptu speeches.
