The Government of Grenada extends heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of Barbados on the passing of former Prime Minister Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford KA, JP.

In a message of condolence shared with Prime Minister of Barbados Honourable Mia Mottley earlier this week, Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell underscored the significance of Sir Lloyd’s contributions to Barbados and the Caribbean as a whole.

“Sir Lloyd has cemented his legacy as one the greatest Prime Ministers in Barbadian and Caribbean history. He was a visionary whose heart was dedicated to the development of his nation, especially in the area of education,” Prime Minister Mitchell said.

“His passion for the edification of the people set an educational standard in Barbados and gave many a solid foundation for their academic and intellectual growth in the generations that ensued. He has left an indelible mark on Barbados and the region by extension.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Sir Lloyd, and the Government and People of Barbados. May you cope resiliently with such a magnitude of loss even as Sir Lloyd’s life is celebrated.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
