On Friday, 14 July 2023, forecasters at the Meteorological Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) advised the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) of the approach of a tropical wave.

This wave impacted the State of Grenada during the early hours of Saturday, 15 July 2023, with showery activity, thunder, and gusty winds.

As a result, there are reports of fallen trees, flooding, landslides, and broken walls in several areas. Additionally, some rivers overflowed their banks.

NaDMA, in collaboration with the Royal Grenada Police Force, the Ministry of Infrastructure, District Committees, utility companies and other stakeholders continue to visit the affected areas and provide the services that are necessary. Members of the public have also assisted in the clean-up efforts.

The weather forecast: Mostly cloudy with light to moderate scattered showers and a medium chance of isolated thunder, improving during the evening.

The National Disaster Management Agency, in collaboration with the Meteorological Office, will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

“In several areas” isn’t helpful. Tell us where these occurred, and exactly what happened there.

Listen folks it was a storm that reminds us that some of our infrastructure is not up to scratch in times like this.
Now there is nothing wrong with this being the case as no one died and we had a chance to see the weaknesses within our drainage and rivers etc.
This brings us back to simple management of our flood risk and ways to prevent things from getting out of hand.

It would be useful to see rainfall totals associated with the passage of these systems. The Meteorological Office in Grenada as done in St.Lucia and Dominica should provide daily reports and forecasts of weather conditions in Grenada in a manner easily accessible on the web with available daily rainfall and monthly totals.
